Sharpening
Free Sharpening Service
We offer a free sharpening service for all DB Blades knives (return shipping at a small cost).
Recommended Methods
For sharpening, we recommend using sharpening stones such as diamond stones, aluminium oxide stones, or waterstones. These offer the most control and flexibility, and when used correctly, remove the least amount of material.
Powered Sharpening Systems
Powered machinery can be risky. Inexperienced user can quickly damage the blade, and these systems tend to remove more material, reducing the overall lifespan of the knife.
Stropping & Maintenance
A leather strop is highly recommended to maintain your edge between sharpenings. Regular stropping helps keep the knife performing well and reduces how often full sharpening is required.
Consistency
The key is consistency. Regular touch ups with fine stones will keep sharpening quick and easy, and help avoid the need for more aggressive work later.
High Wear-Resistant Steels
For high wear-resistant steels (such as S110V, MagnaCut, and 20CV), diamond stones are strongly recommended. Traditional abrasives will work, but can be very slow.
